Donatella Versace Says Designing Britney Spears’ Wedding Dress Was “Amazing”The singer rocked a sil

ritney Spears and Sam Asghari dominated headlines when they got married on June 9, 2022. From their star-studded guest list to the colorful flower wall that served as their ceremony backdrop, the couple’s celebration was filled with show-stopping details. One element that grabbed everyone’s attention? The pop sensation’s wedding dress. Spears waltzed down the aisle in a silk cady gown with a sweeping train, which the iconic fashion designer Donatella Versace created. Now, more than six months after their big day, the famous designer is taking a look back at her experience designing the “Toxic” singer’s gown.

On an episode of Emily Ratajkowski's podcast, High Low With EmRata, which was released on January 17, 2023, Versace described the process as “amazing.” One of the most rewarding parts of originating the dress was witnessing its impact on the bride. “It was amazing to see Britney so liberated, so free,” Versace recalls of seeing Spears in the garment. According to People, the gown took over 700 hours to make, and the Atelier Versace tailors handcrafted the piece.

Some of the most noteworthy facets of her wedding outfit were a 10-foot train, a thigh-high slit, a portrait neckline, and a trail of pearl buttons down the back. Spears rounded off her look with an almost 15-foot veil composed of silk tulle trimmed in silk satin, white satin pumps, a choker, fingerless sheer gloves, and Stephanie Gottlieb diamond jewelry.

In a previous statement, the designer shared more insight into the design process, which also included creating a bespoke ensemble for the groom, according to People. “Designing Britney and Sam’s wedding outfits came naturally to me,” the statement read. “A tremendous amount of love was poured into every detail. Together with Atelier, we created a gown and tuxedo that exudes elegance and glamour. They look just perfect together.”

Versace also had the opportunity to attend Spears and Asghari’s ceremony. “The wedding was very small but very beautiful,” she reminisces. The bride and groom said “I do” in front of just 60 guests, which included celebrities, such as Madonna, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton. The “Gimme More” singer made her way to the altar while Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love" played, sources told People at the time. Then, the pair exchanged promises beneath pink drapery and gold chandeliers. “She cried happy tears at some moments,” the insider told the outlet.

After the ceremony, the singer celebrated with three more outfit changes, hit the dance floor with Madonna, and exited the party with her husband in a white Rolls Royce featuring a “Just Married” sign, the source revealed. “It ended up being the happiest night for Britney,” the insider shared. “She wanted a fairy-tale wedding, and she got it. Britney looked stunning. She is very excited to be married. She looks forward to a future with Sam.”

In the podcast episode, the designer also discussed her long-lasting relationship with Spears, recalling that the two met one another when the singer was just in her 20s. “She was at the height of her career, but she was so humble,” Versace remembers. The fashion maven noted that the pop star was very hardworking and conscientious. “You know, I asked her to do a few interviews for me,” Versace tells Ratajkowski. “‘Of course, yes, give me the list.’ She was sitting there doing everything, never said ‘no’ to anything. She was amazing.”
